Read and read some more!
Read to your child and then read some more!
C'burg Childcare offers a reading nook, for the
children who want to take a break and sit down
and read a book. Usually there is two or three
children in this area. If you could look closely at
our books, you would see that they have been
chewed on, taped back together, and read often.
Our books are not just for the adults to read to
the children, we want the children to experience
the books.
Even infants are encouraged to grab a book and
read. True, they are not reading the books, they
are chewing on the edges, turning the book
upside down, turning the pages, and trying to tear
out the pages. But the important thing, is they are
learning to enjoy a book.
Tonight, as you tuck your child into bed, grab a
book and share it together. Not only will your
child benefit from the quality time spent with
you, but they will learn to enjoy reading.
A tip from C'burg Childcare!

Do you have your child's books upon a shelf? Do you only let your child look at the books when you are looking
at them also?
Is there dust on the books?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions. You are teaching your child, through your actions, because
we all know that;
Actions speak louder than words.
That reading is not something to enjoy, and later on in school they will not do as well when it comes to reading.

So take down those books, let your child enjoy them. Yes, you might have to repair a few, and one or two might
have to end up in the trash to damaged to repair. But you will be teaching your child to enjoy books. A child who
explores books, from an early age, by turning the pages, looking at the pictures, chewing on the corners,
carrying it around. This child will learn to enjoy reading and will do better in school.

So let your child enjoy their books, and when you see your child looking at the same book over and over. Notice
it is his favorite book, and share it together.

There are some days when I read the Dr. Seuss Foot Book at least fifty times! It only takes a couple of minutes,
but it is worth so much more than that to the children.
